ANACT Professional FAQ
What will the schedule look like?
Please visit the class schedule for details regarding each lesson’s title, teacher, and date and time.
The course spans about ten months. On average, every other weekend will consist of one or two live lessons, each about three hours in length. Most lessons will also include a two-hour Q&A session with the relevant teaching faculty. Each week a one-hour “Office Hour” session will be led by the teaching assistants.
Most live sessions will fall between the hours of 10 am and 7 pm ET. These sessions (except for the Office Hour) will be recorded and available for viewing and downloading on the course site.
How many hours should I expect to dedicate to the course each week?
Because lessons are not held every week (or even on a very consistent schedule), it’s hard to give an exact weekly time commitment. Live class and Q&A time will be about 200 hours over the ten months. Please see the class schedule for details.
For out-of-class time, please expect to invest a minimum of two hours per week on required assignments (e.g., readings, written tasks, cooking tasks, or final assessments). This equates to at least 90 hours over the ten-month course.
Is it possible to audit the course—that is, participate in the course without the intention of receiving a certificate?
Yes, this is possible. Please let us know this is your plan from the start. In this case, you can choose to complete or not complete whichever assignments you wish. You will not earn a certificate of completion. You will not be eligible for NAMA credits. The tuition price will remain the same. As a reminder, the ANACT course fee is non-refundable.
Is the course NAMA certified?
Most Ayurvedic professionals (e.g., doctors, counselors, practitioners, body workers, etc.) are required to obtain continuing education credits for the upkeep of their licensure/credentials. We have submitted the ANACT Professional course to NAMA (National Ayurveda Medical Association) for accreditation, and it has been approved for 28 continuing education credits.
How long will I have access to the course materials?
As of now, it is our intention to allow you indefinite access to the course site and all of its content. This includes lesson and Q&A recordings, documents, audio files, assignments, and continued messaging with cohort members and faculty. We recommend downloading and digitally storing anything you are interested in keeping throughout the course. This is best done as we move through the course rather than at the end, simply because of the vast quantity of information/files. If at some point we need to restrict access or close down the site, we will let you know with as much notice as possible.
Are the course materials included and shipped to me, or do I have to purchase them myself?
You are responsible for owning and purchasing the three required ANACT Foundations textbooks before the start of the this course. For those of you who were in an earlier cohort, be sure to have Divya’s new book, Joy of Balance. The other two from the Foundations course are:
What to Eat for How You Feel: The New Ayurvedic Kitchen by Divya Alter (Rizzoli, 2017)
Joy of Balance: An Ayurvedic Guide to Cooking with Healing Ingredients by Divya Alter (Rizzoli, 2017)
Everyday Ayurveda: Daily Habits That Can Change Your Life in a Day by Dr. Bhaswati Bhattacharya
All other readings and course materials will be available on the course site. Depending on your current kitchen inventory, you may need to purchase a few pieces of equipment. Be sure to check the list of required and recommended equipment. Throughout the course, you will also need to purchase some fresh and dry ingredients to make some of the recipes we teach in the demonstration-style cooking lessons.
Is there a kitchen toolset that we need to have prior to starting?
We would like everyone to have a chef’s knife, spice grinder, blender, and food processor. The necessary kitchen equipment is similar to what we used in the Foundations course, but if there are any new or specific tools or ingredients we feel are necessary for you to have in the Professional course, we will give you ample notice. Please refer to your ANACT Professional syllabus for the recommended kitchen equipment list.
